DONEGAL Independent TD Thomas Pringle has insisted the Government is afraid to take on the banks – and produced some ‘startling evidence’ to prove it.
Deputy Pringle was responding to the latest proposals for dealing with mortgage debt.
“The plan is not a plan it is basically a rehash of the existing so called solutions,” said the Killybegs politician.
“Once again the government give control to the banks, just like the insolvency legislation where plans can only happen if the bank agrees.”
And he told Donegal Daily: “Only 25 of 94,000 people in mortgage distress have been able to avail of the mortgage to rent scheme so far, one of the lauded solutions that has been around for 18 months now.
“Do we really expect that the banks will now ramp up this solution?
“This government is afraid to use any ‘stick’ when dealing with the banks and unless they do the crisis will only drag on stifling the economy and people’s futures.”
