unnamed-5BY EMMET RUSHE: If you have been online or on social media over the last few weeks, you will have noticed a topic that received a huge amount of attention.

The ‘Dad Bod’ nearly broke the internet a few weeks ago, with differing news and social media outlets proclaiming that ‘Girls prefer the Dad Bod’ to a guy being in shape.

What gave the topic so much attention was that the ‘dad Bod’ was something that guys in their early 20’s were adopting.

If you have no idea what a ‘Dad Bod’ is, it’s simple.

The dad bod is a balance between a beer gut and working out.
These guys go to the gym occasionally, but also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.
They are not particularly overweight; just a little soft around the edges with a beer gut to match.

If you have watched any of the most popular comedies over the last few years you will have noticed that the leading man, who always ends up with the hot chick is a bit on the softer side.

Think Seth Rogan in ‘Knocked Up’, Kevin James in ‘Mall Cop’, Jason Segel in ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ or Vince Vaughan in any Vince Vaughan film.

So what makes the ‘Dad Bod’ so appealing to the ladies?

In an article for ‘The Odyssey’, Mackenzie Pearson writes a few points as to why girls prefer the Dad Bod.

“The guys are not intimidating to women, and the girls feel less insecure about themselves around guys with the ‘Dad Bod’”.

“Girls feel better about themselves in pictures, when beside these guys.
They feel and look smaller and also feel slimmer beside guys like this”.

“These guys feel better to cuddle”.

“They will go anywhere and eat anything at any restaurant”.

Her final point is that, “with these guys, you know exactly what you are getting. There will be no surprises down the road, as they have the body of a 45 year old already”.

This is a win-win, apparently.

These points may be valid ones and everyone has their own types that they prefer.

But from experience, I can tell you that if these guys have bodies like a 45 year old at 21 and they continue on that type of lifestyle, they will be a complete mess by the time they reach 45.

Your metabolism slows as you age and this occurs because as you get older, your muscle mass decreases and your amount of fat tends to increase, decreasing your BMR and the amount of calories your body burns.
This in turn decreases the amount of calories you need to take in through your diet.

So imagine if you are still eating and drinking like a 21 year old when you are 35, do you think your body will still look the same?

It won’t.

How can I say this??

I can say this, because this is who I deal with day in and day out.

Guys who spent their 20’s and half their 30’s partying, only to wake up one morning and suddenly realise that they are completely out of shape.

I’m not talking about their physical shape, how they look.

I’m talking about the fact that some of them can hardly play with their kids without getting out of breath.

They are also getting the onset of health implications that comes with a lifestyle like this.

Your health always comes first no matter what body shape you have.

With the ‘Dad bod’ you are setting yourself up for a list of health implications later in life.

Some guys won’t see this as a problem, as they are at an age where type 2 diabetes isn’t on their radar, even though they are on its radar.

So how about erectile dysfunction?
Do you think that girls will find that sexy?
Because that is also on the list of health problems for overweight adult males.

You know what is sexy?
A healthy body.

A healthy body radiates a happy, confident outlook, and those are usually the qualities in a man that women find the sexiest.

Whether you want to look athletic, have abs, be slim, that is your own choice.

Just choose healthy—for now and your future.
