Donegal shoppers are doing 'berry' well when it comes to looking after their diets.

That's according to Tesco which has analysed the most popular products frequently added to customer shopping baskets across Ireland and has found interesting regional preferences in the nations’ shopping habits.

The research has revealed that some products are making shopping lists more regularly in particular counties.

It shows that Donegal shoppers are displaying a preference for a healthy start to the day buying proportionally more berries and probiotic drinks than the rest of the country.

Breakfast cereals and porridge are the morning fuel of choice for Monaghan and Cavan shoppers prefer cooked breakfasts buying more breakfast meats; sausage, pudding and bacon than the rest of the country.

Shoppers from Carlow and Offaly would pair well together for household laundry with Carlow purchasing more detergent and Offaly more fabric conditioner proportionally than the rest of the country.

Dubliners purchase proportionally more bagged salad, eggs, cheese and salad ingredients including avocados, beetroot, radish and spring onions. Bread is most popular in Leitrim and Cork with Leitrim stocking up on sliced pan and more shoppers in Cork opting for in-store bakery bread such as baguettes. Laois shopper’s purchase more baby food while Tipperary shoppers are clearly pet lovers, stocking up on more dog and cat food.

Saucy Wexford shoppers came out tops for condiments including mayonnaise, tomato sauce and brown sauce while Roscommon shoppers are the cream of the crop buying more milk & cream and Clare shoppers stocking up on butters and spreads.
