Buncrana GAA News:
Seomra Eamon McMenamin
Buncrana GAA Club is to mark the untimely passing of one of its most dedicated and hardworking members, Eamon McMenamin.
As a long-serving committee member and Treasurer, Eamon was instrumental in many of the Clubs major initiatives and developments over the years. In recognition of hard work & dedication of the late Eamon McMenamin, Buncrana GAA Club will honour his memory by naming the main hall in our clubhouse ‘Seomra Eamon McMenamin’. This ceremony will take place in the clubhouse at The Scarvey on Wednesday 15th July @7.30. Refreshments will be served and everyone is very welcome.
Senior Ladies Win Anne Boyle Cup in Coventry
Our Senior Ladies weren’t sent to Coventry last weekend but were invited instead by the town’s Roger Casements Club and came home the proud winners of the inaugural Anne Boyle Cup. Hosts and spectators alike were impressed by the standard of football played by the Buncrana girls. But it wasn’t all about sport – there was time too for the social side! The Coventry Gaels hosted a great competition and social day and night with teams from all over the UK and Ireland taking part.
The Buncrana Club, especially the players, coaches and supporters who travelled, thank the Coventry Gaels for a brilliant time and look forward to a return visit by them to the Scarvey in the near future.
Senior Ladies
The Ladies travelled to Glencolmcille early on Sunday to play the 1st round in the Junior Championship and came away with a resounding win, 9-12 to 1-9.
Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Buncrana had to contend with a lively Glen who led by 1-2 after the first few minutes. Once our girls got adjusted to the conditions they came back at Glen and went in at the break 4-3 to 1-6, the goals coming from Caroline Gallagher, Mary McKinney, Paula McGrory and points from Paula and Niamh Connolly.
The second half was a different game altogether with Buncrana dominating aided by the strong wind. Stephen Cluxton would have been proud of our keeper’s kick-outs as Amy Casey found a team-mate every time. While there were some great individual performances, all credit must go to the team who performed brilliantly as a unit, controlling the game in all areas of the pitch.
Scorers in the second half were Laura Reid (1-1), Paula McGrory (3-6), Caroline Gallagher (1-0), Doreen McGee (0-2), and Deirdre Grant (0-1).
A Gentle Reminder!
The Committee would like to remind all players to pay their weekly€2 training contribution. This has to be paid only once a week, regardless of codes/age groups/gender. It is not a lot to pay and look at how much you get back in return! The money raised goes towards the running costs of the Club and anyone who has questions about this or any other matter is welcome to ask any Committee member or their manager.
And While We've got your Attention!
Please remember that when representing your Club, in whatever Code, at whatever age level and either gender, you MUST wear Club shorts and socks. Elizabeth Anne has all of them in stock, along with gum-shields. This shows your pride in your Club and respect for your team-mates. Call her on 086 0604075.
Mizen to Malin Fundraiser
The training is over and the starting line beckons for our hardy cyclists who are about to undertake the long trek from Mizen to Malin. Eleven cyclists, ranging from seasoned riders to novices, male, female, young and…well, let’s just say seasoned again, will strain every sinew in their massive fund-raising effort on behalf of the Club Development Fund and Scoil Iosagain Special Needs.
All the money raised from sponsorship and collections during this arduous adventure is going to these worthy causes; the eleven cyclists and their travelling support are paying for their own food, accommodation and travel costs during the event.
They head off from Buncrana to Mizen (by car and van!) at 5.30am this Tuesday and plan to complete the cycle back to Malin Head by 5pm on Sunday 5th. All going well they intend to make it to Letterkenny by Saturday 4th, where they’ll spend the night, before heading off the following morning on the final leg of their trek. They will make a wee pit-stop at the Scarvey along the way to kick off the Club’s Annual Family Fun & Sports Day. The hardy cyclists and their loyal entourage hope to see a good crowd from the Club at either the Scarvey or Malin to spur them on.
A lot of organising and effort from a lot of people has gone into this major Club event, which is kindly sponsored by Carey’s Amusements, Letterkenny Cycles, Paul McGonigle Financial Services, Inishowen Recycling and others. Thanks too to Desmond Motors for supplying the support vehicle van.
Sponsorship cards are on the go and anyone who is willing to take one to help raise a few Euro can contact Aine on 0863953380 or any Committee member. Remember, all the proceeds from this fundraiser go towards the Clubs development fund and a Scoil Iosagain Special Needs.
Summer Camp
Our Summer Camp will run 10th-14th August for 5 and 6 year old and 17th - 21st August for 6+. The cost is €45 which includes a club jersey, shorts and socks. Registration deadline for this camp is 3rd July. If you require any further information please contact the relevant manager or Aidan on 0862762671

Underage Results
U16 Hurling
Our boys continued their fine form in the Derry/Northwest league with a comfortable win at home to Armagh hurling side Cu Chulainns, winning on a scoreline of 8:12 to 0:6. Buncrana is now proudly on top in this league but with a few tight games to go. A special thanks to all the parents who supplied both teams with refreshments after the game.
Under 8 Football
The boys travelled to St Eunan’s, Letterkenny at the weekend where they enjoyed a great day’s football. They performed splendidly and did the Club proud as usual. Many thanks to coaches and parents for help and support.
