Marlins Swim Club, Ballyshannon were delighted to enter 5 swimmers into the Ulster Youth & Age Groups Championships in Lisburn which took place on March 15th, 16th and 17th, 2013. Cian Rooney (Ballyshannon), Mona McSharry (Grange), Eanna O’Hara (Kinlough), Roisin Maguire (Ballyshannon) and Ruby Hurst (Ballyshannon) qualified into this event from reaching specific swim times from other Ulster Galas.
Unfortunately, Eanna O’Hara was quite unwell and was unable to participate.
All swimmers had tremendous swims and personal bests in such high level Ulster competition for the Club.
Marlins SC Swimmer, Mona McSharry is now Ulster Youth & Age Group 100m Breastroke Champion in an extremely nail biting race but Mona’s determination got her to finish first!! This a massive achievement to receive Gold in Ulster as the level of competition is extraordinary. Mona also finished a great third in 200m Breastroke. Mona is from Grange, County Sligo and has been training with Marlins SC for four years now and holds 3 Division 1 swim times as well as many other acheivements. Mona is fully supported by her Coaches, Club and Family to reach higher levels of competition.
The Club itself is swimming from strength to strength with swimmers competing in various competitions throughout the Country and dedicating their time to swim training plus strength conditioning classes and yoga within the Club.
The Clubs next competition to look forward to is the South West Minor League Final in April in Enniskillen, this League consists of four swim Clubs – Marlins SC, Sligo SC, Omagh Dolphins SC and East Cavan SC. Club training continues over the Easter Holidays including a Swim Camp.
