Match Report
Malin reserves started off their season in impressive style with a hard fought victory over Ardara in Connolly Park Malin.

The team were presented with a new strip for the coming season from Brian McGilloway and Neil Mc Gilloway of Craig Na Hulla Design.

Malin got off to the perfect start with a Dermot Diver goal on two minutes after Dan McDaid’s effort had been brilliantly saved by the Ardara keeper but Diver was on hand to tap in the rebound. Dan McDaid started the game in fine form with two points from play in the opening ten minutes. The visitors spun into action after this and scored two unanswered points, one each from frees by the impressive Aidan Shovlin and Aaron Bennett. Malin however did not lie down and a superb Ryan Green goal on twenty minutes saw the home team extend their lead, Green won a high ball above the fullback and finished neatly under the advancing keeper. Shovlin got one back for Ardara from another free and also got one from play from out on the right side. Ryan Green had a great chance for another goal before half time but the keeper made an excellent save. Malin finished the half strong and scored two points on the stroke of half time with Green getting a point from play and a 45’ against a difficult wind by Dan McDaid to leave the half time score Malin 2-04 Ardara 0-04. Ardara came out for the second half a different team and rocked Malin with a goal and three points in a ten minute spell after half time. A free from Fergal O hEinne and a 45’ by Shovlin before a goal by Joseph McLaughlin followed by a another O hEinne point seen the game drawn. Aidan Shovlin then gave Ardara the lead but Malin gave team manager Steven Grant great courage when after going behind briefly they went on to score one four in the final ten minutes. Dan McDaid scored from play to level them game and then an imporatnt free to edge ahead. Seamus Doherty, who was playmaker throughout, scored an excellent point. Dermot Diver who had been in the wars against the Ardara fullback answered him in style with a 45’ to leave Malin three up. A Kieran McColgan goal with three minutes left looked to have finished the game but credit to Ardara they never gave up and punished the Malin defence with a Conor Gallagher goal with the last kick of the game and Malin held out for a fine victory back in division 1.
