Camogie President Catherine Neary visits Tír Conaill Park

Saturday saw teams from all over County Donegal and also Na Magha from Derry coming to the Four Masters in Donegal Town to meet the Camogie President, Catherine Neary.  She was welcomed by a Four Masters Guard of Honour and shown through to the pitch where she was welcomed by all the camogs, coaches and parents.  The sun shone as presentations were made to the President from Club and County; to the Four Masters Minor team a new kit sponsored by the Donegal Town Credit Union; to the County’s first Minor league winners, Burt, who competed for the Marie Brennan Shield and to Marie’s father, Enda, a photograph of Marie and her camogie team from the late 1980s.  Marie’s former teacher and coach, Mary Walsh, gave a heartfelt speech reminiscing with her former team-mates of trainings and matches of years gone by.  This was followed by blitz games where all age groups had matches from U8s upwards and finishing with the Minors showing their skills to the junior players.  Thanks must go to all who helped make the day such a success; from the Four Masters – to all who set out the pitches, referreed games, flew flags, swept the changing rooms, made sandwiches and cakes, organised PA system, photography – so many to mention but mention should be made of Mary Canavan, Rosemary Myers, Breege O’Keeney, Michael Feeney, Mark Sweeney, Noel Ward, Linda Kennedy, Aislin Meehan, Anita Gillespie, Danny Haydn, Rory Kennedy, Fergal McAllister.

Thanks very much to all the teams for travelling to their coaches and parents and of course thank you to Catherine for coming to visit.

Huge thank yous must go to our local businesses who sponsored items on the day:

The Solis, Lough Eske Castle, thank you to Sean Carney for his extreme generosity;
Centra;
Irish House;
Linda’s Krusty Kitchen.
