Naomh Muire GAA club have accepted an invitation to play at the annual Kilmacud Crokes Sevens competition which takes place next weekend.

The tournament is always played on the weekend of the All-Ireland football final.

It's the first time in Naomh Muire's history to participate at the prestigious tournament in the senior category.

Gary Boyle's side were unfortunate not to reach the Donegal SFC quarter-final this year - but take solace from the fact they have secured their senior status for a third year.

It's also the first time in the club's history that they will compete in the Donegal SFC for a third year in-a-row.

Naomh Muire are also still in contention for promotion to Division One and face Killybegs in a crunch clash this weekend.

Naomh Muire captain Brian Gillespie is looking forward to the tournament and is excited at the prospect of testing himself against some of the top players in the country.

Gillespie said, "We're all looking forward to the tournament and we're delighted to have been invited to participate in such a prestigious event.

"It'll be good to test ourselves against some of the best club players in the country, and we're under no illusions as to how difficult it will be.

"But we also want to make an impression and we're not there to make up the numbers, obviously the format is something we're not overly familiar with but I'm sure we can adapt and do well at the tournament.

"Hopefully we have a good weekend and the weather is absolutely stunning!
