DONEGAL’S U-21 footballers staged a stunning comeback against Cavan in the Ulster final in Enniskillen tonight – but just failed to claw back enough to win.
Playing under the floodlights at Brewster Park, Cavan raced into a good lead.
But Donegal, with Paddy McBrearty in stunning form, began to claw in the deficit in the second half.
However it wasn’t enough to secure the title.
Darach O’Connor and McBrearty scored Donegal’s only points of the first half, Cavan leading 0-07 to 0-02 at the break.
Donegal suffered an early blow when Ryan McHugh limped off.
Donegal then began their comeback with Willie Gillespie netting to reduce the deficit and with McBrearty playing superbly Donegal pulled it back to a two-point game.
But just as Donegal closed in Cavan pulled ahead again, finally winning by 0-13 to 1-06 – a four point winning margin.
Congratulations to Cavan on securing the Ulster title.
