THEY'RE banned from catching herring off our own coast because of barmy EU laws and Irish red tape.
But this evening the defiant men of Arranmore went fishing for herring again...from a pier
"Tonight for the first time in living memory herring was caught, not by fishing in a boat but by casting a net off the pier at Stacamor on Arranmore Island," said Jerry Early.
"Meantime a fisherman from Arranmore had to travel for two days to Dunmore East to fish herring because he is banned from doing it in Donegal.
"The reason he is banned is because the scientists can't or won't make up their mind if these herring are Scottish or Irish! If we're guilty of catching these herring come and arrest us. Irish government shame on you."
