A man was killed in an overnight fire in Dungloe.

BREAKING NEWS: A man in his 80s has been found dead after a house fire in Dungloe.

The fire at the house in Dungloe was reported at around 2.30am this morning and broke out at the house at Pole Road, Meenmore.

Emergency services performed CPR on arrival, but the man - who was the only occupant in the house - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body of the victim, a widower who lived alone, has been taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The man who died is very well-known in the area and was described as a real gentleman by neighbours and friends.

His name has not yet been officially released until all relatives have been informed of his tragic death.
