Deputy Joe McHugh TD has confirmed Government grants of €95,000 for upgrades at Ballywhoriskey, Portsalon and Downings Piers.
“Today the Minister for Agriculture, Food & Marine Simon Coveney TD has sanctioned funding for the construction of a €50,000 slipway at Ballywhoriskey Pier. The new slipway will be a useful resource for tourism in the area and for local fishermen.
“Minister Coveney has also sanctioned funding for €25,000 repairs and upgrades at Portsalon Pier, which will entail fitting a toe and hand rails to the pier, together with repairs to a cavity at the back of the pier. Minister Coveney has also sanctioned funding for a €20,000 replacement of fenders at the head of Downings Pier, and replacement of the pier face at the steps.
“This funding has been secured from the 2013 Piers & Harbours Budget. Glengad Pier, Bunagee Pier and Lenan Pier (Inishowen) benefitted from €220,000 funding from the Piers & Harbours Budget in 2012.”
