As the people of Donegal were suffering from the cold weather during the Easter mid-term, students from Errigal College, Letterkenny, were soaking up the sun in Barcelona whilst on their annual school tour.
They were extremely lucky as temperatures reached 23 degrees!
Apart from the lovely weather and the fabulous beaches of Salou, the students and staff had an extremely enjoyable time visiting the highlights of Barcelona.
They enjoyed Montserrat Mountain, its monastery grounds and breath-taking views. Some students experienced their ears popping, as the monastery grounds are 1,236m above sea level.
Another highlight of the tour was their visit to La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s most famous work. The building of this amazing Church is still on going and the students marvelled at its unique and interesting architecture.
The Ramblas was visited, Barcelona’s famous pedestrianised shopping street. Many trinkets were purchased and gifts for those at home.
All students enjoyed their day at Port Aventura Park. This is one of Europe’s largest theme parks. Everyone enjoyed the thrills and spills of water rides and rollercoasters. Even the teachers got a little wet!
Each student enjoyed the tour, as they spoke some Spanish, experienced Catalonian culture and thoroughly immersed themselves in all things Spanish!
Another successful cultural tour for the students and Errigal College, one which is hoped to be repeated next year!
