BY PATSY McGONAGLE: The Donegal Children’s Games will take place on Tuesday 7th May 2013 at the Finn Valley Centre, Stranorlar with a start time of 6.30pm.
Not only will the Donegal Games be held there this year, but the county is fortunate to have both the Ulster and All Ireland Childrens Games at the same venue this year.
The Donegal Children’s Games have seen excellent turnouts in recent years, and with athletics on a high in the county at the minute and many young children starting with clubs since Easter, we are expecting another big turnout on the 7th May. The Games allow each athlete to compete in a sprint, a distance race, a long jump and the new event introduced this year, the Turbo Javelin. These Games on the 7th May will help clubs choose two events for their young athletes for the forthcoming Ulster Games with the closing date for entries the following Friday.

Donegal Children’s Games 2013 (U9-U11) Tuesday 7th May 2013 – 6.30pm sharp
Finn Valley Centre, Stranorlar
- Fee €3 per athlete – this must be paid on the evening
- An athlete may compete in any number of events in his/her age category. An athletemay not step up an age category.
- Sprints will be on a heats to final basis.
- Distance events (300m – 600m) will be on a timed basis.
- Long Jump- Each athlete will have three attempts
- U 9/10 competition – athlete may jump anywhere from the sand. No marks will be permitted. Athlete will commence run up from a ten metre mark.
- U11 competition – athlete must jump from the board. - Turbo Javelin
- Each athlete will have three attempts in succession – The longest of the three attempts will be measured. - Events will commence at 6.30 pm sharp.
- Athletes will be allocated a sticker with his/her year of birth.Coaches/Athletes should allow sufficient time to register and to collect athlete
stickers. Registration Desk will be open from 5.30pm.
- Where possible e.g. if travelling by bus, etc it would be appreciated if clubscould co-ordinate the registration of their athletes by filling out the attached sheets, collecting monies and handing in at the registration desk. The required number of stickers can then be allocated, speeding registration up for all concerned.
