Buncrana Cup

Commiseration to SP Barrett and his Donegal U16 team on their recent defeat in the Buncrana Cup.

Kane Barrett was a member of the team that defeated Down (4-9 to 0-7) but ultimately lost to Tyrone (0-8 to 3-5), while fellow clubmen Darran Nash and Luke Barrett were also on the sideline as selectors, as was Michael McGlynn as physio. It is great to see so many club people being involved at county level.

Donegal U16 Girls v Roscommon

Hard luck to Aisling McHugh, Lianne Boyce and Aoife Donnelly who were all members of the Donegal Ladies u16 team that was defeated by Roscommon last Friday.

Aisling started at corner back while Lianne came off the bench at half time to play full forward and score two goals.

CLG BnaG ‘93 v Glenfin ‘93

A rematch of last year’s ‘friendly’ between the CLG BnaG team of 1993 and the Glenfin team of 1993 in memory of the late Chris Gallagher will take place on the 31st of May in Glenfin. CLG BnaG made their only ever appearance in the Senior Championship in 1993 after winning the Intermediate Championship in 1992 when they played Glenfin in a four game thriller.

CLG BnaG won the game last year and Glenfin will no doubt be out to avenge that result this year!

Senior Friendly

CLG BnaG 1-11 Naomh Colmcille 0-14

The Senior team maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a credible draw against Division 3 opposition in their friendly against Newtown last Thursday night.

It was a game of two halves for the boys tonight as they were quiet poor at times in the opening period, going in 0-8 to 0-4 at half time.

The second half was a different story as a much improved and energetic Milford team seemed to emerge, with an early second half goal from Barry McNulty stirring the boys into action.

Indeed if the game went on another few minutes Milford would probably have finished the game as victors.

With 8 changes to the side that played Pettigo at the weekend it showed the strength in depth to the squad at the minute with 20+ players all vying for positions, and tonight’s draw against a Division 3 team that includes past an present Donegal panelists in Thomas McKinley, Willie Gillespie and Ryan McErlean should give the boys plenty of confidence going into their next league game against Robert Emmetts on Saturday week.

Team: Caolan McGettigan, Anthony McPaul, Barry McNulty (1-0), Ryan Sheridan, Sean Gallagher, TJ Evesson (0-1), Sean Black (0-1), Lorcan Friel, Luke Barrett (0-2), Sean McBride, Pauric Curley (0-1), Gary Helferty, Paddy Peoples, Cathal McGettigan (0-5), Emmett Conaghan. Rolling Subs: Conor McNulty (0-1), Tony McGettigan

Ladies Intermediate League

CLG BnaG 5-11 Dungloe 1-1

The ladies team made it four out of four in the league when they made the trip to Dungloe on Sunday morning and the scoreline says it all.

This was a game that Milford dominated from start to finish and the fact that Dungloe didn’t score from play tells how hard the girls worked.

Playing with the wind in the first half Milford’s speed and use of space was too much for the Dungloe girls to handle with Amber Barrett and Aisling McBride in particular causing the Dungloe defence a lot of trouble with their direct running, and they went in at half time leading 4-5 to no score.

As to be expected playing against the wind in the second half, the defence were more involved and they did a great job restricting Dungloe to just two scores from frees with their goal coming just a couple of minutes from the end.

Dannielle Friel and Aisling McCafferty came off the bench at half time and contributed 1-2 between them which shows the strength of the panel and Danielle Friel in particular caused the Dungloe full back problems due to her own unique brand of physicality.

It was a great team performance and player of the match was Bridgeen Devenny who’s work rate at midfield was immense.

Team: Denise Gallagher, Sharon Graham, Aoife Gallagher, Karen Peoples, Joey McFadden, Niamh Carr, Emer Callaghan, Orla Harrisson, Bridgeen Devenny, Orla McAteer, Lianne Boyce, Amber Barrett, Shannon McGroddy, Rachael Coyle, Aisling McBride. Subs used: Danielle Friel, Aisling McCafferty, Laura McCafferty, Gemma Hegarty

U16 Girls

Buncrana 2-3 CLG BnaG 4-10

Milford U16 Girls had an excellent win away to Buncrana on Monday night. Playing against a strong wind in the first half they battled hard with great defensive play from Carmel Black and Katie McAteer and were leading 1-4 to 1-1 at the break.

With the aid of the wind in the second half the girls took a real grip of the game with some fine scores from Lianne Boyce, Aisling McHugh and Niamh Gallagher
