Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher has welcomed movement on Dungloe and Glenties sewage schemes.
Cllr Gallagher said she is pleased that recommendation for tender will be completed within the next two weeks stating this will be the final part of the tender process.
“It will be imperative then that a budget is allocated from the department of environment to have the contract signed, and for work to begin in Dungloe and Glenties.
“Both towns have had serious negative effect due to inaction and neglect over decades to upgrade the sewage systems. It is expected work will begin on the ground in July 2013.”
Cllr Gallagher said she has asked that Donegal County Council hold an open day in Dungloe and Glenties before works begin.
“This will inform the public of the works that will be taking place and to answer any questions locals have regarding the schemes. The council have agreed to this request and details of this will be publicised locally.
“The tender process is frustrating and time consuming and procedures need to change to speed the process up, in this contract, tenders were received by the 8th of November, this will mean that this final process of the scheme will have taken 9 months, which is not acceptable.”
