A young man was killed in a road crash at Stranorlar last night.
Luke Peeks, from Carraduffy, Upper Killian Road, Inver, was the only person involved in the crash.
It is understood his car left the road in the single-vehicle collision happened at Treanamullin at around 11pm.
Mr Peeks’ car was found in a field close to the road. He was in his 20s.
The road was closed for a number of hours, pending an examination by gardaí but has since reopened.
Gardai have appealed for any other motorists who may have been in the area at the time and noticed the crash to contact them.
A spokesman said: “Gardai at Ballybofey are investigating a single vehicle road traffic collision that occured last night at approximately 11p.m. 25th December, 2012 at Treanamullin, Stranorlar, Co.Donegal
“The male driver (mid 20s) of the car, was fatally injured when his car left the road and came to a stop in a field. He was removed by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital.
“The road where the collision occured is currently closed, pending an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.
“Diversions are in place from Stranorlar via The Cross and Killygordon when travelling from Stranorlar towards Lifford and from Killygordon via the Cross to Stranorlar/Ballybofey.”
