We are looking for volunteers to help take down the flags and bunting that remain up tomorrow, Thursday Dec. 27th. We are meeting at Gormley’s Centra (near the Hospital) at 11am sharp. We particularly need help from those with ladders and or vans!!
Can any managers that still have trophies, please collect them so we can put them into the trophy cabinet in O’Donnell Park.
While 2012 was an historic year for Donegal football, St. Eunan’s GAA club has also had a fantastic year, claiming a Senior football double of League & Championship honours in Men’s football while the Senior Hurlers missed out on the county final on scoring difference and the Senior ladies lost their county semi-final by a solitary point. There were also several underage successes claimed by the St. Eunan’s club in 2012.
Rory Kavanagh and Kevin Rafferty represented St. Eunan’s on Donegal’s All-Ireland SFC winning squad with Rory playing a significant role at midfield that saw him nominated for an All-Star Award.
The Seniors defeated southern sides Kilcar, Killybegs, Dungloe and N. Conaill en route to regaining the Senior Championship crown for the first time since 2009 – a title that was much coveted this year with Donegal’s success on the national stage.
The U21’s and Minor Boys both lost their county finals in two very tight games that could have gone either way.
In the Minor Board, the Minor and U16 girls both claimed championship honours in 2012. The U14 Boys team swept all before them, winning a League & Championship double – defeating N. Conaill in both finals and they also claimed the Co. Féile crown for the 3rd year in a row, losing their national Féile semi-final to eventual winners New York. The U13’s also defeated N. Conaill in their championship final, this time by the narrowest of margins to secure their spot in next year’s Féile that will take place in Derry. The U16 hurlers claimed a B league and championship double while the U12 hurlers claimed the county Go Games title. The U12 Boys footballers retained the James Gallagher Cup and topped their Go Games section. Our Sunday morning U10 Football Academy continues to attract approx. 120 children every week with another 60 plus children attending the Friday Evening Hurling & Camogie on a weekly basis.
Sean Feeny claimed the County Senior Scór title in the Ballad section of the competition, narrowly losing out in the Ulster semi-final. In Scór na nÓg, Niall Hannigan won his first county medal with his well delivered recitation “Our News”.
In 2012, St. Eunan’s launched our Peace III funded coaching initiative “GAA For All” that has employed 4 coaches in the greater Letterkenny area to visit schools and introduce our national games to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in Gaelic Games.
The St. Eunan’s club has also hosted several high profile games including the Senior Hurling Championship Final, the Junior A football Final, several senior championship clashes including the semi-final meeting of N. Conaill and Four Masters as well as the Donegal v Laois Allianz NFL Div. 1 game. Donegal’s All-Ireland winning panel were also regulars in O’Donnell Park in 2012 for training.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all the people of Letterkenny a Merry and Peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year and to thank them for their continued support of our national games. We would also like to thank our many sponsors for their kindness in these difficult times. Nollaig shona agus bliain úr faoi mhaise dó gach duine go léir.
