Lifelong St. Eunan’s Club Member, Barney McMonagle is pictured with Town Mayor, Dessie Larkin and Councillors Pascal Blake and Tom Crossan at the Official opening of the new training pitch at O’Donnell Park on Sunday.
Part of the ongoing development of the O’Donnell Park facilities that sees over 30 teams of all ages play games and train on a weekly basis for Football, Hurling & Camogie this is an important step in keeping the club at the forefront of the GAA here in Donegal.
Club PRO Paul McGovern thanked Barney for his lifelong devotion to St. Eunan’s and for all the work he carries out keeping the grounds neat and tidy.
He also thanked the members of the Town Council for their generous support of St. Eunan’s over many years. In turn, Barney expressed his delight and honour at being asked to open the new training area and he even kept us waiting for the photo while he did some tidying up!
Mayor Larkin then spoke and said: “It is easy to help people that want to be helped, St. Eunan’s GAA club are a shining beacon for our town for all that they continue to do for the young people of Letterkenny. Sport of all kinds is a fantastic outlet for children and the facilities here at O’Donnell Park are a credit to everyone involved with St. Eunan’s. On days like this we are reminded of our late colleague, Tadhg Culbert who was a hurler for the club and a staunch supporter of St. Eunan’s and I would like to pay tribute to his memory as we open this new training pitch today,” he concluded. Missing from the picture are Cllr. Jimmy Kavanagh, who we send our get well soon wishes to and Cllr. Ciaran Brogan who had other commitments.
