THE AWARD WINNING DONEGAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA GETTING OUT AND ABOUT AROUND THE COUNTY FOR THEIR END OF SEASON CONCERTS
County Donegal Youth Orchestra are travelling to both Carndonagh and Ballyshannon to give a number of free family concerts to mark the end of what has been a very successful year for this group of talented young musicians. All students of the VEC’s Donegal Music Education Partnership (DMEP), the 60 strong membership comes from all corners of the County and were delighted to receive an’Achievement Award’ at the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras annual festival earlier this year for their performance of The Happy Prince.
Performing a variety of works by Beethoven, Coldplay, The Beatles and Altan, as well as music from the motion picture ‘Pirates of the Carribean’, this will be a fun, enjoyable evening/concert where the various instruments of the orchestra will also be demonstrated, all under the baton of conductor Vincent Kennedy.
The Youth Orchestra are giving their debut Inishowen performance in The Aras, Carndonagh Community School, next Friday night, 17 May, at 7.30pm. This will then be followed by a concert in the Abbey Arts Centre, Ballyshannon, on Sunday 19 May at 3pm.
