Masters Show Jumping at Sligo

At the Association of Irish Riding Clubs (AIRC) Masters Series Show Jumping Qualifier at Tubberbride Equestrian Centre, Sligo, show jumpers from Donegal faired very well.

Charlie Vial, Tirconaill Riding Club, qualified for the Final in Mullingar in September by taking the 3rd spot in Intermediate grade. Patricia Warren, Donegal Gaeltacht Riding Club, riding The Colourado Kid, was placed 2nd in the Advanced Intermediate Grade, and Cormac McCormack, Letterkenny Riding Club came 6th in the same grade: both riders qualified for the Final. Warren had previously qualified by winning the Mullingar Qualifier on her other horse, He’s a Dandy.

Proving that age is no barrier in show jumping, the Advanced Primary Show Jumping Derby was won by the man who took up horse riding at 67. Lawrence Smyth, Falcarragh, Donegal Gaeltacht Riding Club, who will be 72 next month, rode clear on Jenny’s Jigsaw in 91.5 seconds, which was the fastest time.
