U16 GIRLS COUNTY SEMI FINAL VS TERMON
Moville u-16 girls cruised into the county final with an emphatic win over Naomh Muire in Milford this evening. From the throw in, it was evident that the girls were keen to continue their winning streak having convincingly won all previous 6 group games.
Paul Mc Dermott’s hard work on the training pitch was very evident as the girls played a brand of fluid passing football with someone always there to support or coming off the shoulder. Unlike a lot of teams at this age group there was no “catch and kick”, more a case of patience in there build up. They picked off point after point before a clear chance presented itself for a goal which Sarah Jane Mc Donald dispatched to the corner of the net.
The game was pretty much over as a contest at half time but as is the sign of a good team Moville continued with their game-plan and even the introductions of the substitutes was seem-less allowing Moville to run out very comfortable winners .
This was truly an all round team performance with the Moville keeper, Amy Canning rarely troubled. Emma Doherty was in fine form at full back, dominating the square and allowing nothing past. Sarah Jane Mc Donald and Nicole Mc Dermott pulled all the strings at midfield and the Mc Guinness sisters and cousins were a handful for the Naomh Mhuire back-line. Every player contributed to what was an outstanding performance. (thanks to William McElhinney for report)
INTERVIEW WITH PAUL MCDERMOTT (U16 girls coach)
Having reached the county final Paul had nothing but praise for the group of players involved within the squad. ‘From the very beginning all the girls were turning up in numbers for training and they were training very hard; they were more than happy to give it their all on the training field. This dedication from the squad meant that they made it through the Inishowen group of the competition with ease. In the next stage of the competition they faced St.Eunans and were successful yet again, only conceding 5 points in this game. They were drawn to face Termon in the next roud, traditionally Movillle’s toughest rivals, but managed to defeat them in a game packed with goals, setting up a county semi final against Naomh Mhuire in Milford.’ (You can read about this game elsewhere in the notes) When asked about the upcoming County final against Fanad on Tuesday night, Paul replied: ‘The girls have worked very hard on their preparation for the final, they have been working on a running game throughout the year and their support play is excellent. Every member of the squad from number one up to 23 or 24 has been excellent throughout the campaign. Other coaches have commented on how strong our substitutes have been, a player being replaced with an equally strong player. We are travelling to Convoy in the hope of victory, but we cannot be complacent as Fanad are not simply coming to make up the numbers. The girls have put in a great effort and it would be great to see them travel back to Moville on the bus as county champions. It has been three years I think since we won this competition and all the girls would love to see as many people as possible come to support them on Tuesday’

The club are seeking members to volunteer their time on a Monday night at Bingo to help out with the club Lotto. All help is greatly appreciated and the club would ideally like a panel of people who could help out by giving an hour of their time on a rotational basis. Also, anyone who could help out at home games by acting as umpire please contact any club member or just turn up on the night and volunteer.
