Patsy GallagherA WOMAN punched her own sister-in-law in the face during a family dispute, a court has heard.

Bernadette Ward, from Meadowbank in Letterkenny, was babysitting at her home last April when she answered a knock at the door, Letterkenny District Court heard.

Inspector David Murphy said that when she opened the door she was punched in the face by her sister-in-law Geraldine Ward.

The victim of the assault suffered bruising to her right eye as a result of the attack.

Solicitor Patsy Gallagher, pictured, told Judge Paul Kelly that the incident was a result of a family feud at the time which had since been settled.

“The parties involved are sisters-in-law and arose about comments allegedly made by the victim,” said Mr Gallagher.

“There were some unhappy differences at the time and my client’s husband was stuck in the middle of this.”

He said the victim Bernadette Ward had since ‘moved abroad’.

The court heard Geraldine Ward was a mother of eight and her husband was unemployed.

She had one previous conviction for the possession of knives.

She agreed to enter into a €250 peace bond.
