Passengers onboard a cruise ship that docked at Killybegs pier after two of the ship’s generators failed will be flown back to Portsmouth tomorrow.
The ship docked in Killybegs on Tuesday morning and was due to leave again at 8pm on Tuesday evening, but the departure was postponed twice after two of the four generators on board the ship had failed.
Attempts were made by engineers to resolve the problem, but they failed to get the generators working again.
A spokesperson on behalf of the tour operator Voyages of Discovery said,
“It is with great regret that the decision to cancel the remainder of the cruise was made.”
“Voyages of Discovery has apologised to all passengers for these unusual and unforeseen circumstances which have arisen as a result of events beyond their control.”
The cruise was due to end on Sunday.
All passengers will be flown back to Portsmouth tomorrow. They will receive a 60% refund of their fare and have also been offered a 50% discount on a future cruise onboard the ship.
Additional excursions have been arranged for passengers during their extended stay in Killybegs.
