LOUGHANURE TECH TO CELEBRATE ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY IN STYLE

The Loughanure Technical School opened its doors to the youth of the Rosses, Gweedore & Cloughaneely in Sept 1938.

It continued as an educational facility until 1978 when its use was then changed to an Irish college.

This year marks the 75th year since that opening and plans are well underway for a reunion of all past pupils and teachers or anyone associated with the Tech spanning those 40 years.

The Reunion event will take place over two days, Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th August with the Rosses Community School running an event on Sunday 25th.

• The weekend will start off on Friday morning the 23rd with a Golf competition for past pupils/teachers & a guest at Cruit Island Golf Club, tees reserved from 10 – 11am. Further info @ Jimmy Bonner 074 9543296. Later that evening @ 7pm a memorial service will be held at the Loughanure Tech in memory of past pupils/teachers who have gone to their eternal reward.

Buses will re-enact the old Swilly routes (free of charge) starting in Crolly @ 6:00pm and will pick up as they go through Annagry, Mullaghduff, Kincasslagh, Burtonport, Dungloe then on to Loughanure. Return journey will start @ 11 pm from the Tech. Plese forward the names of deceased members before the 23rd. Refreshments and music will follow. This is a night for reminising and an open invitation is extended to everyone.

• On Saturday 24th @ 12noon a heritage walk and talk will take place in Loughanure starting and ending at the Tech. This walk is to celebrate National Heritage week and will visit all the historical points of interest in and around the beautiful village of Loughanure. Time approx 2:5hrs. Contact Eugene or Cormac @ 086 3899345 for further details Saturday evening 24th the highlight of the weekend, a Buffet & dance or ‘The Prom we never had’ will take place at Ionad Sport Na Rosann, Rosses Community School, Dungloe. Buffet served from 8:30pm sharp, dancing 10 – 2am with full bar. This is a ticket only event and is limited to past pupils/teacher and one guest.
