AN open public consultation meeting regarding the proposed closure of two Specialist Pre-Schools in Donegal will take place in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Letterkenny from 7.30-9.30pm on Monday 10th June 2013.
St Agnes Pre-School in Donegal Town has stopped new intake and is expected to close next year.
Meanwhile, Ballaghderg Specialist Pre-School can only be guaranteed by HSE for the next 18 months.
The HSE plan to develop a transition model for children with complex and profound needs to mainstream pre-school that is built on inclusion research commissioned by the Department of Education in 2010.
Although shocking, last week’s Prime Time Report brought into sharp focus the many inadequacies in our mainstream early childcare sector as a result of under investment, lack of policy activation, inexistent support for the workforce and a HSE regulation system that is not fit for purpose.
The open meeting will give parents and Donegal childcare providers to evaluate the inclusion proposal and decide whether the mainstream sector can cope with this decision at present.
You will hear from childcare providers and from parents. Please come along and have your say – everyone is welcome.
