On Saturday June 1st Green Acres Quilts in Falcarragh hosted a Quilt Pink Day in honour of all those affected by cancer. 
The purpose was to raise money for the Letterkenny Cancer Centre; over 70 women came to make one block which will be put together this summer to make 3 or 4 quilts that will be raffled off during October – the cancer month.
Women from all walks of life and from all parts of the world enjoyed making a basket block and signing it with their name and the name of someone that cancer has touched.
The quilts will all be baskets and are called Baskets of Hope.
Green Acres had women from the Netherlands, the USA, England, Northern Ireland and all the towns surrounding Falcarragh enjoying themselves. 
Some were sewing blocks for the first time – others have quilted for years.
Green Acres youngest quilter was 8 and also had 2 11 year olds who all made beautiful baskets, decorated with roses and buttons.
A group of ICA ladies made 10 blocks in Killybegs and another quilting group made 30 blocks.
Ladies from the quilting groups at Green Acres will put the quilts together over the next month and they will be all over the area this summer to raise money for the Cancer Centre.
Stephanie Green, owner of green acres, cut the kits up for the blocks so all the women had to do was sit down and sew.
Thanks to Henny Arrts, Violet Montgomery, Marjorie Lavender, and Stephanie there was a table full of goodies, tea and coffee to entice the ladies after they finished their blocks or while they were waiting for a free sewing machine. 
Green Acres offers a full summer schedule of workshops every Tues, Thursday and Saturday to keep people doing a little bit of sewing all summer long.
A full schedule of classes will resume in Sept with classes for the beginner right up to the experienced quilter.
A quilt weekend is scheduled for Aug 16 – 18 where people can make a full quilt in a weekend.
