Burtonport native and former Irish International goalkeeper Packie Bonner has lent his support to Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland.
Packie appeared on Ireland AM this morning on TV3 to help raise awareness on the condition and also to drum up support for the organisation’s charity golf classic that takes place in August.
Packie has had a personal involvement with Spina Bifida for the last 18 years, his niece Una suffers from the condition so it’s an issue close to his heart.
Packie was joined on the show by the head of the organisation Peter Landy.
Packie told viewers,
“I obviously have a personal involvement with the organisation because my niece Una has Spina Bifida, but I also see the work these guys do and it’s fantastic.
“I was out at the resource center yesterday in Dublin and was watching the work that was going on and it’s fantastic, the support networks available now are excellent.”
“The support and professionalism shown by this organisation is immense, they provide a fantastic support system for the people not only affected directed by the condition but also to their families and friends.
Packie is the head of the organisation’s charity golf classic fundraiser, the charity like all charities is finding it hard to raise money in this current economic climate, and there hoping the golf classic can raise much needed funds.
The charity golf classic takes places on Friday the 23rd of August at the K club with teams of Four playing, the organisation is looking for teams to sign up now and sponsor this worthwhile event.
