Jason QuigleyUPDATED: BALLYBOFEY boxer Jason Quigley will fight for gold at the European Championships after beating world champion Evhen Khytrov in Belarus today.

The Finn Valley ABC middleweight beat the Ukranian on points to make it another golden day for Irish boxing.

“It was the performance of my life and I knew it had to be,” said Jason.

“I know that no-one else in this tournament wants this as much as me.”

John Joe Nevin and Paddy Barnes have also set their sights on gold medal bouts after winning their semi-finals.

Irish fans roared Jason to victory – and he was delighted afterwards as the referee raised his arm to confirm the judges’ scores.

The Ukranian refused to leave the ring after the fight, obviously upset at the result in a very tight bout.

But Jason walked away with a beaming smile on his face – cheered on by Barnes and Nevin.

The judges scored the bout 30-27, 28-29 and 30-27.

The win for the 22-year-old was stunning – it was the fight of the day at the tournament in Belarus.

It’s the Donegal boxer’s greatest victory to date.

He is now guaranteed silver – but will battle for gold this weekend!

There will be live coverage on Saturday of Jason’s fight on RTE.
