BUNDORAN lifeboat crews were involved in a double call-out late on Saturday – but thankfully both incidents proved to false alarms.
The first call-out was to kayaker suspected of being in trouble off St John’s Point.
However the kayaker was fine, and the call was made by someone who had thought he was in trouble.
The crew was on its way back to base when another alarm was sparked off Mullaghmore, with reports of a flare being seen off the north Sligo coast.
The Sligo Rescue helicopter did an aerial search of the area but nothing was found.
A spokesman for Bundoran Lifeboat said however they would rather launch to a false alarm than not be called at all.
“We stood down at 11pm. But if you think you see someone in trouble in the water call the Coast Guard on 112 or 999 – we would always rather launch and be sure,” he said.
