Donegal star Patrick McBrearty has poured cold water over the perception that all modern intercounty footballers spend more time in the gym than they do on the football pitch by revealing he doesn’t go to the gym at all. 
McBrearty felt he was big enough and was worried if he bulked up he would lose alot of speed which he feels is a very important aspect of his game.
McBrearty said,
“I don’t go to the gym at all, when I was brought into the County panel in 2011 at 17 I was asked did I want to go on a gym programme and I said no ‘I’m big enough as it is’.”
“Their was never any pressure from the management for me to go the gym, It’s the same with Jamie Clarke he didn’t want to feel under pressure to go to the gym.”
“I always looked at the Gooch too, probably the best player of his generation and he doesn’t do the gym either, it was just a personal decision from me.”
“I didn’t want to get too big in my upper body speed is a massive part of my game and I didn’t want to lose a yard or two of pace.”
