TEMPERATURES topped 30C in Donegal this afternoon – and it’s going to get even hotter.

As the council issued a hosepipe ban to deal with depleted water stocks in our reservoirs, forecasters say Saturday in the county could get even hotter.

One motorist in Ardara today recorded an astonishing temperature of 42C!

Beaches across the county are packed with people trying to cool off as Med-style temperatures saw a huge influx of visitors from across Ireland – north and south.

Hotels and B&Bs are doing a roaring trade.

And shops are quickly selling out of ice-cream.

Met Eireann forecaster Evelyn Cusack says another scorching week of hot weather is ahead.

And it will get so hot, it may spark some massive thunderstorms.

“Showers may extend into west Ulster on Sunday night,” she said.

“The weather will continue very warm or hot through next week. There’ll be a fair amount of dry weather. However there will be a risk of heavy thundery showers at times in many areas.

“Daytime temperatures will reach between 25 and 29 degrees and possibly reaching 30 degrees.

“The nights will be very mild and close with lowest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees. Winds will be light and from a mainly easterly direction.”
