“Families will receive the bills in early 2015.

“In a cynical move the government is holding off until after next year’s local elections before anyone receives bill.

“Fine Gael and Labour know that to issue the bills before may would certainly mean a loss of council seats.

“The current proposal to charge households for water was dreamt up by Fianna Fail but brought to life by Fine Gael and Labour,” he said.

He added that he has been speaking to local Fine Gael supporters and members and they are genuinely concerned on where there party is going and are very unhappy with these austerity policies.

“The time has come for leadership from our local government public representatives, to make a stand against their governments failed austerity policies and stand with the people, the very same people who gave these councillors their votes in 2009.

“With the local elections coming up in may of next year, these government cllrs need to choose which side they are on – their parties or the people.”
