gavel1A MAN facing three child rape allegations in Co Donegal has been bailed in the North – despite objections from the authorities here.

Roy David Cochrane, 42, from Loughmuck Road in Omagh, appeared in court in Belfast on the foot of extradition warrants.

Cochrane denies all three charges and was bailed to appear again in court on January 18th to answer the charges.

Lawyers representing the Irish Director of Public Prosecutions objected to bail, saying Cochrane had showed a reluctance to return to Donegal to face the charges. They also expressed fears that he would flee.

A lawyer for Mr Cochrane said he strenuously denied the charges and had made strenuous efforts to deal with the matters against him.

Judge David McFarland freed the Omagh man on £1,000 bail and ordered him to stay in the North and surrender his passport.
