A DONEGAL man who winched a long-lost anchor from the seabed off Rathmullan has been given 24 hours to throw it back into the sea.
The Office of Public Works and the Revenue have seized the 100-year-old relic, telling local man and well-known salvage operator David McGloin he can no longer leave it on the town’s pier.
He has until tomorrow to throw it back to sea – or claim rights to it from Britain’s Royal Navy.
Said David: “It is very frustrating. We wanted to put it on display in Rathmullan for local people and visitors to see.
“I did this for a bit of craic and fun, but it’s all been blown out of proportion.”
