A father-of-three has revealed how he feared for his children’s lives after a low-flying helicopter caught in their kite on Portnoo Strand.
The man, who asked not to be named, suffered a severe cut to his hands when the string on the kite cut into him.
The man said the helicopter was only flying at the height of a two-storey house when the incident happened.
He said his children could so easily have found themselves with the string of the kit around their neck.
The man told Donegal Daily “There is no question he was flying too low. The beach was very busy that day.
“I could see him coming towards the kite and I tried to pull the kite down out of his way but it got caught in the helicopter.
“It got caught in the helicopter and the string dug right into my hands. I didn’t need hospital treatment but I had a bad cut on my hands.
“It could have been much worse if the string had wrapped around one of my children’s neck,” he said.
The man said the pilot of the helicopter never came to him after the incident and never apologised to him or asked him if his children were injured.
