Jim McGuinness has admitted that his side were not hungry enough to win today’s crunch All-Ireland quarter final game.

And the Glenties man says Mayo could well go on to win the Sam Maguire in September.

But McGuinness stood by his players and said they don’t owe anybody anything.

“We started the game well but the hunger that Mayo had was the difference.

You have to take your hat off to Mayo – they had the hunger.

“They won a lot of ball in the middle of the park through the O’Sheas.

“It’s a very tough day for us but these boys don’t owe anybody anything. The wheels may have come off today but they don’t owe anybody anything,” he said.

McGuinness said his side suffered a lot of injuries and he was picking from a small squad but he said he was offering no excuses today.

“We were beaten by a better team and they won by a mile. They are contenders.

“We will have to look at ourselves and how we got to this point. We will take a bit of time and hopefully we will have a coupe of more answers than we have today,” he added.
