A Co Donegal paramedic has warned the upheaval in ambulance services caused by flooding at Letterkenny General Hospital is putting lives in danger.AMBULANCES

The concerned medic contacted Donegal Daily to express his serious worry about the service.

He claimed that because ambulances are now being sent to Sligo, Derry and Fermanagh, there are occasions when just ONE ambulance is available to ALL of Donegal.

The medic claimed that no extra ambulance personnel have been allocated to the region despite the longer runs being endured by staff.

“Some ambulance runs are taking up to three hours leaving the rest of the service exposed.

“The reality is that no extra personnel have been drafted in which means that people are being exposed.

“People will die as a result of not getting the expert help from the paramedics if something isn’t done,” he said.

The situation may be eased somewhat if the accident ad emergency ward at Letterkenny is reopened as planned in the coming weeks.

However, the paramedic warned that unless extra resources are put in to cope with the extra volume of work, people are being put in danger.
