Former Donegal star and All-Ireland winner Charlie Mulgrew has said that the Donegal Mayo match was over before the ball was even thrown in and described Donegal’s performance as “terrible”.  Charlie Mulgrew picture

Mulgrew guided Fermanagh to an All-Ireland semi-final in 2004 narrowly losing to Mayo.

However he felt the signs were there all year and that the focus that went on the Tyrone match hurt them further down the line.

He revealed he went to Sunday’s match in more hope than expectation.

Mulgrew said,

“It was terrible performance and one of our heaviest ever defeats, to lose like that when your All-Ireland champions is very hard to take.”

“To be honest the signs have been there all year, the boys had no hunger and I think the preparation they underwent in the lead up to the Tyrone clash really took it’s toll further on down the line.”

“They never seemed to be able to lift themselves after that, we were poor against Down and then we were obviously well beat against Monaghan before struggling past Laois.”

“We hoped that playing in Croke park would put a spring back in the step but it wasn’t there and the boys looked tired.”
