FINN HARPS CHAIRMAN HEARLDS U17 SIDES GALWAY CUP VICTORY

Finn Harps Chairman Joey’O’Leary has paid tribute to the management and players of the Harps Development Squad who won the 2013 Macron Galway Cup following their 1-0 victory over CCFL in Saturdays final. champions

A second half goal from captain Conor Matthewson in a tense final ensured that the Donegal side returned home as Champions in their first year participating in the prestigious youth competition.

O’Leary said:

“We were all was glued to the internet on Saturday awaiting updates from the final, and when news came through we had won, everyone associated with the club was absolutely delighted.”

“On behalf of everyone at Finn Park I want to congratulate Manager Eunan Brolly and his management team of Aidan Gallagher, Marty Byrne, Daniel Nolan, and also to Michael Grant who does a great job ensuring the logistics all run smoothly.”

The Harps Chairman also praised the performance and professionalism of the players.

“The organisers of the tournament went out of their way to commend the positive attitude of the lads both on and off the pitch.”

“It’s nice to get that feedback and it speaks volumes about the players and their families. On behalf of the board I would also like to thank the players Clubs for their co-operation and goodwill.”

“This success is also a reflection on the excellent standard of coaching and facilities now been offered to young players throughout Donegal and the North-west.”

U17 Manager Eunan Brolly was delighted with the commitment of the Harps squad

“To get to the final was a big achievement, but to actually take the Trophy home in our first year is absolutely fantastic.”

“Every member of our travelling squad played their part, and I have to say all our players were magnificent for the whole week.”

“The lads played 5 matches in four days but their determination and professionalism made them worthy winners. There is some fantastic potential in this squad and we are already looking forward to defending the Trophy next year.”
