Tri the Lough Triathlon
Saturday last saw the latest installment of the National Series take place in the Tyrone Village of Loughnaboy just outside Omagh.
The sprint race was well stacked in both the male and female races.
With 300 competitors on closed roads for racing there was a great buzz in the air as the race got underway shortly after 11am.
Letterkenny’s Aidan Callaghan, was first out of the water and followed this up with a good bike but will be disappointed with his run form, loosing a lot of time and finishing in 3rd place overall, a little over a minute behind the winner Kristopher Muldoon for the host club. Gavin Crawford came home in 6th, a fine display when you consider he raced in and won the Army triathlon championships just a day previous on the Friday.
Michael Duffy and Nick Fowell continued their run of good form recently finishing just outside the top 30. Michael and Nick had very good bike splits with only seconds separating the pair.
Hugh Gallagher has shown a lot of promise in this his first season in the sport and indeed will give some of the other club members a good run for their money in the coming years if he continues this fine form, finishing just outside the top 50.
Paul and Bronagh O Gara made a return to the racing scene after a bit of a summer break, while Brain Ward and Shaun Logue raced well as did Martin Donnelly also in his first season is also showing a lot of promise.
Lisa Dalton did well after a long break and was able to pip ex Armagh footballer Jarleth Burns to the finishing line.
Next up for most club members will be the National Olympic Distance Championships in Dublin in two weeks time.
With the season drawing to a close, these last few races could be the difference in the battle for points when everything is done and dusted at the end of September.
