A Buncrana town councillor has demanded that all CCTV footage in the vicinity of Tullyarvan Mill be examined in the wake of an ongoing security alert.
Cllr Ciaran MacLochlainn said he hopes that the suspicious found earlier today turns out to be a hoax.
However the Sinn Fein politician said the incident does nothing to help the image of Buncrana and Donegal in general.
“I sincerely hope this is a hoax. As bad as that is, at least it would not have hurt anyone if it had gone off.
“However until the army arrives we just don’t know yet.
“This entire incident has done nothing to help the image of Buncrana and Donegal.
“If it is a hoax it is an elaborate one as someone has gone out of their way to make it look like a pipebomb has been left in the area,” he said.
And Cllr MacLochlainn added “I am appealing to anyone who has CCTV in the area around Tullyarvan Mill to make it available to Gardai so we can find whoever left this device here.”
