Dunlewy Celtic 2 Arranmore United 3

The summer sun shone brightly on a very entertaining game which had it all. It was the visitors who took the lead when a home side attack broke down in the Arranmore half. It was quickly turned around with Gerard Diver providing the killer pass for Mark Ward to convert.

The home side began to take control of the game with Liam McMullen and Ronan Cheney working well in centre midfield, and it didn’t take long for the home side to draw level when Michael Mc Laughlin drill home from a Christy Cannon cross. It was Christy Cannon himself who then put the home side ahead after a great move which involved Daniel Cannon and Lorcan Gallagher .

The second half was very intense with the wind getting ever so strong it put the home side on the back foot and this resulted in Arranmore getting back on level terms when a kick out from keeper Hugo Cannon landed at the feet of Geared Diver who in turn knocked it swiftly back goal wards and caught out the home keeper. This left the game evenly balanced and it looked like it was going to end in a draw. The game’s last attack saw the visitors brake the offside trap and Chris Mc Glanaghey beat the approaching keeper to give the visitors a hard earned victory.

Good team performances from Dunlewey and Arranmore.

Orchard FC 4 Mulroy Celtic 0

Orchard collected all three points at home after a hard fought battle with Mulroy. Both teams had good chances early on and it took until the thirty fifth minute for Orchard to open the scoring when Redmond Doherty started an attack deep in his own half and was on hand to fire home from the edge of the box after some good work down the left by John Boyle. Niall Bonner made it two when he slotted past the keeper from close range. Then Stefan Gillan made it three on seventy eight minutes when he collected Joe McCarron’s cross field ball and although his first effort was well saved by the keeper he hammered home the rebound from ten yards. In the eighty fifth minute Eddie McLaughlin slotted home from six yards after some good play by Niall Bonner.

Best For Orchard : Niall Bonner, Joe McCarron, Eddie McLaughlin

Rathmullan Celtic 1 Bonagee United 1

Played in a blustery conditions, both teams served up an entertaining encounter. Bonagee playing into the wind in the first half had the better of the game and will be disappointed at going in on level terms at half time after some strong showings from their midfielders. Shortly after the break the opening goal arrived when a free kick from Darren Ashmore found Ian strain’s net from 30 yards. That woke Rathmullan up but they had to wait until the 80th minute before evergreen Mark “Mushy” Curran found space in the box to beat Paul Doherty at his near post. Both teams had chances to win it but a draw was a far result.

 

Milford United 2 Glencar Celtic 2

Glencar came to Milford and left with a point after a hard fought contest with a share of the spoils a fair result. Glencar took the lead after 20 minutes when Stephen Browne volleyed home. Milford’s best chance of the first half was from a Johnny Sweeney free kick that was headed off the post by Joey Cullen. Milford got back on level terms twenty minutes into the second half when Lee Burke finished well from a Johnny Sweeney through ball. Glencar responded 5 minutes later when Stephen Browne finished excellently past Caolan Mc Gettigan. PJ Hagan levelled the game on 80 minutes, lobbing the keeper from 20 yards. Milford pushed for the winner and could have been caught with Glencar counter attacking swiftly on a couple of occasions. Overall it was a fair result with both teams battling strong for an early season game. Referee: Brian O’ Kane

 

Ramelton Mariners L Whitestrand United L

 

Strand Rovers 0 Keadue Rovers 3

There was a great reception for Strand Rovers who were playing their first game in the Donegal Junior League.

But that welcome didn’t last long as neighbours Keadue showed they meant business from early on.

Good game played in good conditions and in good spirits scorers were Adam Neely, Donal Rodgers penalty and Ryan Greene, man of match Brendan Brennan for Strand Rovers

 

Gweedore Celtic 8 Glenree United 1

A five goal salvo by Colin Ferry gave the home side a convincing victory over Glenree United. Gweedore opened the scoring on ten minutes when Ferry sent a looping header over the keeper from Brendan Mc Geady’s cross. The lead should have been doubled on twenty minutes but Eamonn Curran drove a spot kick over the bar. The second goal arrived 5 minutes before the break with Colin Ferry again the marksman.

Ferry completed his hat-trick on fifty minutes. With the home team well on top now Ferry bagged his fourth on fifty-five minutes. Five minutes later Ferry fed John Walsh to fire home.

The best goal arrived on sixty five minutes when Ferry fired into the top corner from the edge of the box. Brendan Mc Geady and Jamie Boyle completed the scoring for Gweedore. Damien Nelis scored a late consolation for Glenree.

For Gweedore, Colin Ferry was man of the match well supported by Jamie Boyle and Cathal Campbell. A team performance from Glenree United. Referee: Ronan Floyd

Cranford United 1 Glenea United 3

Cranford opened their season with this Brian McCormick Cup game against Glenea in superb conditions at Cranford park. Both teams started cautiously but they game sparked into life when Darren Mc Geever scored from the penalty spot for Glenea on 15 minutes. Cranford’s task was made more difficult when they were reduced to ten men in the 25th minute but almost equalised when Chris Duffy’s corner was headed goalwards by Philip Buchanan and cleared off the line, with the follow up by Martin McBride cleared also despite Cranford claims that one if not both of the efforts had crossed the line. The second half was also very closely contested with Chris Duffy, Brendan Giles and Shaun Mc Elwaine all going close before a free kick for Glenea was scored by Darren Mc Geever to put two between the teams. Good work by Hughie Bradley and Brendan Giles resulted in a Cranford penalty which Buchanan dispatched to put the minimum between the teams with 15 minutes remaining. However the game was put to bed when Donal Coll scored a screamer from 30 yards which was worth the admission fee on its own. Seamus Mc Lauglin, Shaun Gallagher and Chris Duffy best for Cranford with Darren Mc Geever and Joe Coll best for Glenea.

 

 

 

Tullyvinney Rovers 1 Deele Harps 1

Played in great conditions at the Crossroads it was Tullyvinney who took the game to Deele in the first twenty minutes . It was Tullyvinney who had the first chance when Martin Alexander beat the offside trap but blasted over when it seemed easier to score. Deele came more into the game then without ever really threatened the home side. The second half started and it was end to end stuff but in the sixty fifth minute a through ball played by Denis Mc Bride was latched onto by Adam Gardiner and he was upended in the box by the Deele keeper .Up stepped Anthony Dignam to blast home the penalty. Deele pressed forward in the remaining minutes and they drew level with the last kick of the game when a throw-in from Paul Lynch was not cleared and it fell to James Mc Nulty who blasted home, so in the end a draw was probably a fair result .Best for Deele Shane Gallagher, Paul Martin and Aaron Conroy Best for Tullyvinney Nigel Hegarty, Paul Mc Daid and Adam Gardiner. Lifford Celtic 5 Convoy Arsenal 1

On a fine day for football at The Green Brae Convoy started brightest. They had the majority of possession in the opening 10 minutes only for Lifford to take the lead against the run of play when Johnny Robb beat the offside trap to finish neatly. Lifford’s lead didn’t last long as Convoy’s reply was immediate when Brian Harvey equalised from the edge of the box. Johnny Robb struck his and Lifford’s second on the 30 minute mark after good approach play from Cian Patton and Declan Laverty. The second half began similar to the first with Convoy maintaining dominance and pressing but to no avail. Robb grabbed his hat-trick on the hour mark as he cut in from the left following a through ball from Stuart Carlin to finish to the bottom corner. As the game was coming to a close Lifford added on two further goals as Robb grabbed his fourth and Johnny Mahon got on the score sheet to leave the score 5-1 at the final whistle. Best for Lifford were Johnny Robb and Johnny Mahon. Good team performance from Convoy.

 

Curragh Athletic 4 Ballybofey United 0

Curragh strolled to an easy victory over neighbours Ballybofey United in the Brian Mc Cormick Cup. Eddie Moore opened the scoring on thirty three minutes when he headed home a rebound from the crossbar. It was two on forty three minutes when Ryan Carlin drilled home. John Mc Laughlin then headed in on seventy six minutes before the same player scored the goal of the match on eighty six minutes. The young Ballybofey side put in a credible performance and although they did not manage an effort on Roy Duffy’s goal they were well served by man of the match, keeper Liam O Meara, Darragh Redmond and PH Bonar. For Curragh it really was a stroll as they continue their preparation for the Premier League campaign. Referee: Mick Lagan

 

Drumoghill FC 2 Raphoe Town 2

The spoils were deservedly shared in this derby encounter as Drumoghill twice came back to secure a share of the points thanks to a brace from Jason Burke.

Raphoe opened the scoring on 22 minutes through a Paddy Gallagher free kick after Emmet Kelly was upended on the edge of box. Gallagher’s strike was firmly hit and although Mc Cready got hands on it, he was unable to prevent it from going into the net.

The lead was short-lived though as Drumoghill restored parity 7 minutes later. Jason Gibson and Stephen Davenport combined well to send Jason Burke clear and the striker hammered home from 12 yards to level the scores at the break.

The second half opened with both teams having chances but it was Raphoe who took the lead after a mix-up at the back allowed Mark Bogle all the freedom in the world to put Raphoe back into the ascendency on 57 minutes.

Drumoghill though lack nothing in character and forced a second equaliser when Burke flicked in at the back post from McIntyre’s 80th minute corner to secure his side a valuable point.

Cappry Rovers 3 Fintown Harps AFC 1

Cappry Rovers defeated Fintown Harps 3-1 in an entertaining game in the Brian Mc Cormick in Cappry Park on Sunday. The home team started the stronger and had some near misses with a few good saves from the Fintown keeper. Kyle Lafferty had a great chance early in the game when he blasted the ball against the bar from close range with the keeper stranded. The opening goal arrived in the thirty seventh minute following a cross from Aaron Kelly, the ball was bundled home from close range by Kyle Lafferty. Dylan Ramsey got Cappry’s second goal in the forty second minute when he shot to the bottom corner of the net.

Cappry started this half where they ended the first but it was the visitors who dominated a lot of the play in an attempt to get into the game and they were rewarded in the sixty third minute when they were awarded a penalty following a tackle in the area. The spot kick was scored by Brian Delaney. Good play by the Cappry defence and good saves by Brendan O’ Meara prevented the visitors from equalising. Cappry secured the points in the eighty seventh minute when following a rebound substitute Pete Lafferty, who was also making his debut for the seniors, scored from close range. Alan Patton was best for Cappry. Peter Toner best for Fintown Harps.

 

Eany Celtic 1 Dunkineely Celtic 5

A young Eany side faced a strong Dunkineely side in their first home match of the season in the Brian Mc Cormick Cup. The visitors got the perfect start through Andrew Mackey on ten minutes, with Ciaran Kennedy adding a second 6 minutes later. Barry Rose got one back for Eany on the half hour mark and the score remained 1-2 until half time . Eany came out looking for the equaliser from the start of the second half and were caught out by a counterattack from which Colm Mc Nicklaus got the first of his brace. He followed up quickly with his second ten minutes later. Alan Lyons got Dunkineely’s fifth in the 80th minute . Good team performances from both sides.

 

Donegal Town 0 Copany Rovers 4

A weakened Donegal Town side travelled to Copany Rovers in a reversed fixture and the home side ran out convincing winners. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Copany dominated the early stages and took the lead when David Graham finished well at the front post. Copany doubled their lead from the spot when Clarke was brought down inside the area. Graham stepped up to score his second and it stayed that way until half time. Graham completed his hat-trick just after half time when he prodded home from inside the area after good work wide on the left hand side. Declan Brown came closest for Donegal when his header came back of the bar from a Gary Ward corner. Due to an injury Donegal played the majority of the second half with ten men but the win was sealed in stoppage time when Copany added a fourth goal. Best for Copany were Graham and Clarke. Best for Donegal were Farragher and Hegarty.
