Monday 12th was another milestone for the club’s Junior members when they took part in Mr. Barry Ramsay’s President’s Prize for Juniors.
Coming out on top with a narrow victory was Evan Mc Croary [18] who, with the help of a birdie at 14th and 24pts on back nine, returned an impressive 40pts overall to win his first “major”.
Following closely in second was Caolan Friel [16] on 38pts and in third place was Ruari Lafferty [28] with 37pts. Cat.4 President’s Prize was James Tourish [28] on 36pts and gross prize on the day was won by Matthew Curley [11] with 34 gross pts.
Wed. 14th the club hosted the David Johnstone sponsored Open and taking the honours was Malachy Dunleavy [12] with 45pts. Despite a bogey at 1st, Malachy recorded three birdies for 24pts on front nine and with two unfortunate double bogeys on back nine, was still able to return a score of three over 75 gross. In second place with a magnificent 44pts was Cat. 4 member Sean Gilroy [24] who, with the help of birdie at 13th, managed a remarkabe 25pts on back nine to beat Eugene Griffin [20] on BOT.
A worthy mention of the sponsor himself who missed out on his own prizes by just one point.
Sat. 17th saw the much anticipated Mr. Barry Ramsay’s President’s Prize of which the format was the ever-popular V.PAR. Topping the leaderboard on this prestigious occasion was Cat. 2 handicapper Brian Mc Aleer [14] who beat the Barnhill course 6 up. Having bogeyed the first, Brian answered with seven straight pars and two consecutive birdies at 12th and 13th and despite blanks at 16th and 18th, still managed to win by one shot.
In runner-up spot was Michael Forde [16] on 5 up.Despite a disastrous start of blank, Michael steadied th ship and with birdies at 10th and 16th, pipped third placed Johnny Moore [23] by one shot also. Johnny’s score of 4 up included birdie at 16th and triple bogey at 17th.
Sunday 18th club confined was dominated by three Juniors, the future of Lretterkenny Golf Club. In top spot was the ever impressive Junior Cup tea member Johnny Deeney [5] recording a magnificent one over par 73 gross. With birdies at 4th, 8th and 14th, Johnny’s level par back nine gave him 40pts in total. In second place was Odhran Davis [15] with 39pts, whose birdie at 18th was enough to pip the ever-present Christopher Duffy [8] on BOT. Christopher’s birdies at 3rd, 4th and 13th would have helped him to first place but for an uncharacteristic double bogey at 15th.
