Boyzone star Mikey Graham has revealed he once had to fight his way out of the Limelight nightclub in Glenties after locals became jealous of the attention the band were receiving from their girlfriends.   Mikey_Graham

Boyzone are celebrating 20 years in the business since they were shot in to the public domain following that now infamous Late Late show appearance back in 1993.

Boyzone enjoyed incredible success over the years and are still revered worldwide by an army of fans.

But Graham revealed the beginning wasn’t all that easy and one particular incident in a Donegal nightclub sticks out in the early ’90s..

Graham said, “At the start we had to do a huge amount of promoting we were up and down the country plugging the album and trying to achieve as much national attention as we could.

“There wasn’t a shopping centre, leisure centre, bar, hall or nightclub we didn’t play in during the first 12 months, but it became apparent quickly that were becoming well known and popular as attendances grew at every gig.  niteclub

“We had a lot of female admirers but I remember one night things got nasty in Donegal.

“We were playing a gig at the Limelight nightclub in Glenties and the girls were going mental we were lapping up all the attention, but the local lads didn’t like it one bit and before we knew it there was chairs and glasses flying.

“We literally had to punch our way out of the nightclub and in to the back of the van, it was chaos.

“They were fun times and thankfully it took of for us and now 20 years on we still have a huge fan base.

“I think if the internet and iphones were in action when we were going it would be a whole lot tougher but One Direction never had to fight their way out of a nightclub in Donegal so maybe not.”
