The famous Oatfield sweet factory is Letterkenny is to be demolished.
The factory, which once employed as many as 85 workers, is to be cleared after planning permission was granted by Letterkenny Town Council this week.
Zopitar Ltd, a subsidiary of Donegal Creameries, are expected to bulldoze the site in the coming weeks.
The factory closed last May with the loss of its remaining 17 jobs when production at the plant was moved to the UK.
There had been initial calls for some sort of museum to be built on the site in memory of the famous sweet factory but nothing transpired.
Sweets form the plant, which was founded by Ira McKinney in 1927, were known around the world.
The included the emerald chocolate and the chocolate orange.
It is not known yet what plans the current owners have for the site.
