ATHLETICS NEWS: ROSSES AC CELEBRATE 35 YEARS AS AN ATHLETIC CLUB

Fit4Life with coaches Elise Gillespie and Sinead Diver are at Carrickfinn on Mondays at 6pm and in Mullaghderg at the Banks on Wednesday at 6. New members always welcome. 

Rosses AC who are celebrating 35 years as an athletic club this year are hosting the Donegal Uneven Ages Cross Country Ch’s in Mullaghderg Banks on Sunday 13th October.

The Senior Ladies and Men’s Novice Ch’s will also be held. The Juvenile programme on the day will be Under 9 (born 2005/2006), Under 11 (born 2003/2004), Under 13 (born 2001/2002), Under 15 (born 1999/2000), Under 17 (born 1998/1997), Under 19 (born 1996/1995).

Rosses AC are also hosting the Donegal Athletics Board AGM which will be held in Ionad Teampall Cróine , Dungloe on Monday 7th October at 8 pm.

Gold again for Aidan Gillespie at Northern Ireland Masters Track and Field Ch’s at the Mary Peters Track, Belfast last Saturday to cap off a very successful track and field season.

Gold in the Triple Jump in the Masters M40 category with a jump of 11.59m to add to his double Gold in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.84m and in the High Jump at Irish Masters Athletics Ch’s in Tullamore recently and of course his Gold in the Long Jump and Bronze in the High Jump at the World Police Games at the Mary Peters Track, Belfast last month.

Cross country training starting in Maghery at the Community Centre next Monday 9th September for children from Roshine NS, Scoil Chróine NS, Dungloe, Doochary NS, Scoil Bhríde NS, Leitir, and Meenagowan NS. Training will be at 6pm and the cost is €2.

Underage cross country training will also be held every Wednesday and Friday in Mullaghderg Banks at 6 – 7pm.

The club will be holding a number of information evenings for all existing club members as well as anybody doing some running on their own or may be interested in joining a group of people to train.

The information evenings will be held on Monday Sept 9th in the RCS Dungloe, Wednesday 11th Sept in Pobail Scoil Gweedore and Friday 13th Sept in the hall in Mullaghduff Hall – all sessions from 9 -10pm.

These sessions will be targeted at adults of all levels from beginners, joggers to the more serious athlete.

The session will provide information on some training basics, overview of the club training sessions and plans from Sept 2013 through March 2014 with an overview of potential races people might want to set as targets.
