Award-winning restaurant Sargasso has shocked its loyal customers by announcing that it has closed its doors for good.
The Letterkenny eatery, which has been open for two years, had become a favorite for many people.
However, this afternoon the owners posted a message on the restaurant’s official Facebook page telling customers the bad news.
It is expected the restaurant will redeem any gift vouchers which are outstanding.
The Facebook message said “Sargasso Restaurant is now closed. Thanks to all our staff, customers and suppliers for their support over the past few years. Please contact us by email on sargasso11@hotmail.com if you have unused Gift Vouchers to redeem.”
The award winning restaurant had developed a great reputation around Letterkenny and were the Ulster Winners of the Bord Bia Award for their Just Ask campaign in May
Sargasso opened in October 2011 and were renowned for supporting local food suppliers.
It sourced most of its produce within a 10-15 mile radius in nearby Convoy, St. Johnston, Raphoe and slightly farther afield along the coast of Killybegs and Clonmany.
The news will also come as a huge blow to these locally sourced food suppliers.
It is believed that up to ten people have lost their jobs due to the closure of the Sargasso restaurant earlier today.
