UPDATED: Gardaí have ruled out arson after a fire in a Glencar housing estate this morning.
A large blaze broke out at Glenoughty Close at approx 10.30am this Saturday morning.
Senior Fire Officers and Gardai have now established, the fire at the above estate this morning was not malicious.
“It was caused by hot ashes in a pastic bin and the surrounding area caught fire,” said a spokeswoman for the local residents association.
“The fire travelled towards both oil tanks and caused the explosion. No one was injured and all is now under control,” she added.
A thick black plume of smoke was seen from miles around.
Fire services were reported to be at the scene shortly afterwards.
“There was a huge plume of black smoke over the area,” said one resident.
“It was quite frightening.”
She added: “Thankfully it was an accident and nothing malicious and more importantly no-one was injured.”
