RESIDENTS in Inishowen say the water from their taps has turned the colour of tea….because of a burst main.
Donegal County Council admits they are having problems with the supply in the Culdaff and Gleneely areas.
It says engineers are working to fix the problem which has been discolouring the drinking water since the weekend.
“Following a burst in the area on Sunday a section of the supply network was reversed to allow a number of houses have an alternate supply while the burst was being repaired,” said a council spokesperson.
“When the burst was repaired and cleaned out the reversed flow was then returned to it’s normal direction. However, the changes in direction appear to have had the effect of dislodging material accumulated on the sidewalls of the pipe network which has now caused the serious discolouration. We are currently scouring the network to try to return to the normal quality.”
She added: “We are sorry for the inconvenience that this is causing and we are working hard to get the situation sorted.”
Families have been forced to use bottled water – and cancel all use of their washing machines for the past few days.
